1st Vice President - Werner Duvenhage

Werner Duvenhage is currently the General Manager of the Paladin Energy Limited’s, Langer Heinrich Mine (LHM) in Namibia. Werner holds an Honours degree in Financial Management from the University of Johannesburg. He join LHM in 2005 prior the original construction of the mine as Commercial and Administration Manager. He was part of the senior management team that lead the mine through original construction, ramp-up and meeting design production. A further two development stages followed. In 2010 Werner appointed as General Manager. Prior to joining Paladin he worked in various management roles in the Namibian fishing industry and started his working career in the South African mining industry.


Werner is currently also serving on the Uranium Stewardship Committee.            

2nd Vice President - Kombadayedu Kapwanga

Managing Director

Mr Kapwanga graduated with a Masters Degree in Geology and Mining Engineering from Moscow University of Geology in 1981 and a Masters Degree in Industrial Management Sciences from the City University of London in 1995. He did his practical technical training with Rio Tinto International at Wheal Jane Tin Mines and Anglesey Aluminium in the United Kingdom. He joined Rio Tinto Zimbabwe in 1995 where he worked in various senior positions at Patchway and Renco gold mines. In 1989 he was transferred to Rio Tinto operations in Namibia where he also occupied senior positions at Rossing Uranium Mine.

He was appointed the first Director of Mines in Namibia in 1990 and was responsible for formulating the mining legislation which is still in force in Namibia. In 1995 he joined Namibian Minerals Corporation (Namco) as its Regional Director. Namco quickly developed from a grassroots marine diamonds exploration company to a second marine diamond mining company in Namibia. In 2003 he joined Sakawe Mining Corporation (Samicor) as its Regional Director and was instrumental in its acquisition of Namco mining and minerals assets with financing from the Leviev Group of Companies. He is the Managing Director of LLD Diamonds Namibia since 2004. He was appointed by the Minister of Mines as Director on the Diamond Board of Namibia. He is a Council member of the Chamber of mines of Namibia. He is also the Secretary to The Diamond Manufacturers Association of Namibia.

 

General Manager – Veston Malango

 

Mr. Veston Malango is the General Manager of the Chamber of Mines of Namibia. He is a qualified Mining Engineer with a M.Sc. Degree (1985) from the Technical University Bergakademie Frieberg, Germany. He is also a qualified Gemmologist with Diplomas (1993) in Diamond Grading and in Coloured Gemstones from the German Germmological Training Centre in Idar-Oberstein, Germany. Mr. Malango holds an MBA (2004) from the Maastricht School of Management, The Netherlands. He is a member of the Engineering Council of Namibia since 1996.

Mr. Malango has vast experience in the mining industry in Namibia and the SADC region. He worked as Deputy Director of Mines at the Ministry of Mines and Energy for 8 years and then joined Ongopolo Mining & Processing Ltd, now Weatherly Mining Namibia for one and half years as Director responsible for strategic projects. He was appointed General Manager of the Chamber of Mines in October 2005.

Mr. Malango worked in the Zambian copper mines after university studies as a graduate mining engineer and then worked for the SADC Mining Sector for 6 years on minerals investment promotion projects to the SADC mining sector.

Mr. Malango serves on Boards of some institutions namely: the Bank of Namibia as Board Member, the Polytechnic of Namibia as Vice-Chairperson of the Council, the Minerals Development Fund of Namibia (MDF) and the Namibia Institute of Mining and Technology (NIMT) as Trustee.
