Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb Drives Local Procurement Initiatives

On Friday, 21 May 2021, Dundee Precious Metals (DPM) Tsumeb hosted its first Procurement Webinar for suppliers, via Microsoft Teams. The webinar was officially opened by the company’s Vice President and Managing Director, Zebra Kasete and hosted by the Manager: Purchasing, Jackson Kapuka. Over 52 local suppliers attended the Webinar.

Kasete introduced the vision and principles guiding DPM Tsumeb’s procurement approach, which forms part of the local procurement pillar of the national agenda, and emphasized the company’s priority to partner with the community and create value, and ultimately a nation that can sustain itself. The Company will in due course launch a Supplier Development Programme, aiming to mentor Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and provide them an opportunity to access funding from the banking sector, which will resource SMEs to provide goods and services, said Kasete.

DPM Tsumeb requires a variety of products and services. These require skilled, semi-skilled and un-skilled labour and include construction, electrical, instrumentation, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, consulting services, civil and earthworks, which involve carrying out feasibility studies, design work, supervision and project management among others.

DPM Tsumeb contracted WebPortunities, which is an online procurement tool, where all the company’s tenders and requests for quotations (RFQs) are made accessible to suppliers, at no cost. The company’s tender opportunities are also advertised via Namibian media channels of communication, including local daily newspapers.

The webinar provided an opportunity for suppliers to interact, ask questions and receive answers from DPM Tsumeb Management. DPM Tsumeb shared their expectations, to inform suppliers of tender requirements. Through the sharing of information, the Webinar aimed to increase the number of local tenderers successfully participating in procurement processes and ensure that the company receives quality bids and competitive offers.

Kasete further stated that the Webinar outcome can improve the company’s process efficiencies, cost containment, project timelines and overall benefit to the Namibian economy.
